The City of Oceanside needs your help to achieve this goal. We cannot meet the 50% mandated diversion rate without each resident doing his or her part! RECYCLING INSTRUCTIONS
Glass Bottles and Jars: All *CRV and colors of glass jars and bottles are accepted. Please be sure all contents have been removed.
Please do not include window glass, drinking glasses, mirrors, light bulbs, or porcelain.
Aluminum And Bi-Metal Cans: All *CRV cans, aluminum pie pans, and tin cans, soup cans, vegetable cans, pet food cans etc…
There is no need to remove labels, but please empty the cans of any contents.
Plastic: *CRV Plastic, which includes milk jugs, fruit, juice or sport drinks. Also, shampoo, laundry detergent, and other similar plastic bottles with recycling symbols #1 through #7. Please do not include plastic bags; they will not be accepted in our recycling crates. Many grocery stores accept plastic bags for recycling, so please check with your local stores for availability.
All of the items listed above may be placed together in the same recycle crate. Please do not place any of your recyclables inside plastic bags!

Newspaper/Cardboard & Junk Mail: All newspapers and inserts, junk mail, any color paper, envelopes, magazines, catalogs, telephone books, and cereal boxes. Cardboard boxes must be flattened, and no larger than 3' X 3' in size.
Remove plastic liners from cereal boxes. Do not include tissue paper, napkins, paper plates or any waxed or coated paper or waxy cardboard. No pizza boxes or milk cartons

That means nearly 100 million trees get used for junk mail every year in the U.S. Let's keep the trees in the forest, and get the junk mail out of your life.

Junk mail is a waste of time and resources. The average American household receives 1.5 trees through the mail slot in the form of unsolicited mail every year. That adds up to over 100 million trees annually. In addition, Americans collectively pay $370,000,000 a year to dispose of the junk mail that doesn't get recycled. But there is good news! You can get rid of 90 percent of that junk mail much easier than you might think. It's good to recycle your junk mail. It's even better to stop getting it altogether.
GREEN WASTE RECYCLING
Place only grass clippings, leaves, weeds, and other prunings out for collection. Place green waste cart on the curb by 6 a.m. the same day as your regular trash collection.
Prunings and branches must be tied into 4-foot sections and tied into bundles not to exceed 18 inches in diameter.
Please, do not use wire for bundles.
Please Do Not Use Plastic Bags. Green waste placed inside plastic bags will not be collected.

Residents may bring up to 5 gallons per day of used motor oil, used oil filters, and anti-freeze, Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (no appointment is necessary)
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) materials are only accepted on Saturdays BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Oceanside residents must show proof of residency.
SHARPS MEDICAL WASTE DISPOSAL PROCEDURES
A new state law effective September 1, 2008, will make it illegal to dispose of home-generated hypodermic needles and other medical sharps waste in the trash, home recycling containers, or green waste containers.
As a result of the recent legislation Waste Management will no longer collect sharps medical waste, and if drivers discover them in the trash or recycling receptacles, they will leave the entire receptacle and place a non-collection tag on it so the resident or customer can properly dispose of the items. The non-collection tag will state the reason that Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) was found in the container. Additionally, the non-collection tag will provide the phone number of Waste Management's customer service line for further information on proper disposal of HHW and sharps medical waste.
Locally the proper disposal methods for sharps medical waste already in place by Waste Management are the following options:
Waste Management sharps disposal by mail system:
Residents can find out more information at www.wastemd.com. sharps disposal by mail-back programs is the preferred method of disposal. Some pharmacies also accept used sharps.
Waste Management sharps collection containers:
Waste Management has authorized containers at the Oceanside Buyback Center for residents to drop off their sharps/needles. Residents can bring these needles in containers. WM employees are not authorized or allowed to handle sharps. Residents can dispose of these items during normal business hours.
The hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00am – 4:00pm.

UNIVERSAL WASTE DISPOSAL LAWS
Important Information
As of February 9, 2006, all households and small generators will have to change the way they are disposing of everyday universal waste.
Universal Waste is items that contain hazardous material deemed too toxic to be disposed of in landfills. Residents may no longer put these items in their trash for collection. These are items you use every day, such as household batteries, fluorescent tubes, electrical switches, mercury thermostats, and other electronic devices found in your home.
Waste Management of North County and the City of Oceanside have been leaders in providing residents with safe and proper disposal for these types of waste. Currently Universal Waste can be brought to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 2880 Industry Street on scheduled Saturdays, BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Electronic Waste can be dropped off during normal business hours at Waste Management’s Recycle Center at the same address, Tuesday – Saturday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
